Vosne Romanee -- This plot was acquired in 2002 by Axelle’s family. Les Barreaux is located at the top of the slope, surrounded by 3 premier crus and 1 grand cru - Cros Parentoux, Les Petits Monts, Aux Brulées and Richebourg. Average Age of the Vines: 35-40 years old. -- Tasting Notes: Deep purple to the rim, vibrant, with a fresh, lively nose of blackcurrant, juicy, crunchy and fresh. On the palate lovely velvety black fruits, supple, lightly spiced, rich and deliciously approachable with a long, fresh finish.

"An appealingly spicy and fresh nose features notes of cassis, black cherry, violet and a whiff of newly turned earth. There is fine density to the solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a moderately firm and youthfully austere finale. While this should repay 6 to 9 years of cellaring, it's not so backward that it couldn't be enjoyed young." - Outstanding, BH
"Discreet but still perceptible wood sets off the even spicier aromas of ripe plum, cassis, rose petal and exotic tea. The sleek, succulent and utterly delicious middle weight flavors retain good delineation before terminating in a dusty and sneaky long finish. This could use a bit more depth, but the underlying material appears to be present for that to happen. Worth considering." - Outstanding, BH

2015 1er Cru Les Borniques
Certified organic, Borniques borders grand cru Musigny and sits east-facing above premier cru ‘Amoureuses’ with soils are nearly identical to grand cru Musigny, limestone and veins of white and yellow clay. Vine ages range from 40-60 years. Aged 43% in clay jars and 57% in older French oak barrels. Tasting Note: An appealingly fresh nose once again exhibits a subtle hint of menthol that combines with plum, black raspberry and subtle spice notes. There is excellent richness to the concentrated and unusually powerful broad-scaled flavors that possess plenty of dry extract that saturates the palate on the wonderfully intense and solidly firm finish. This is quite serious but even so it is more refined than the Charmes. - BH Pair with grilled red meat; aged, soft-rind French cheese or game meats.
