2019 From Consultant Winemaker Guillaume Rouget
*From Consultant Winemaker Guillaume Rouget* 6,980 bottles of Single-varietal Gamay from Fleurie produced in 2019 from 35yr and 70yr vines. ---- The 2019 Fleurie reminds us of what it is: a floral, fine and elegant wine. Its notes, similar to the structure of a perfume, spread out around red fruits, grenadine, musk and tobacco. Its power gives way to a smooth mouth and an intense length. It is a wine that will reveal all its richness when kept for a long time.

"Here the reduction is slightly less prominent if not invisible but it's sufficiently light as to more easily allow the earthy and peppery red gamay fruit aromas to express themselves. Otherwise there is good punch to the bigger-bodied and intense middle weight flavors that possess very solid depth and length on the balanced if ever-so-mildly austere finale. This moderately robust effort should repay a few years of cellaring to allow the slightly rustic tannins to more fully round out." -BH

2016 Domaine de la Grand'Cour
Domaine de la Grand'Cour -- Certified Organic, limited production -- An old family parcel kept by Jean-Louis' father when the family purchased Domaine de la Grand'Cour and moved to Fleurie. Average vins age is 50 years but many vines are well over 100 years old. -- While Brouilly is known for its volcanic and decomposed rock, Jean-Louis’ parcel is unique in the Crus as it sits on limestone and clay, which gives the wine a little extra stuffing. -- Traditional "beaujolaise" vinification: semi-carbonic maceration, no sulfur in vinification (small amount added at the blend before bottling(. Jean-Louis' motto in the cellar is "minimal intervention and maximum surveillance." -- From a family parcel located near the house Jean-Louis grew up in, this Brouilly is an anomoly in Dutraive's Fleurie-centric lineup. It is earthy, savory and sappy, and offers endless enjoyment in every glass.

2019 Les Charmes Eponym
Les Charmes Eponym ---- "Glistening ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented cherry, black raspberry, violet and black cardamom scents pick up a spicy nuance as the wine opens up. Chewy and tightly wound on entry, offering juicy dark berry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that deepen and slowly spread out through the back half. Shows firm tension and impressive energy on a very long, mineral-driven finish framed by polished, even tannins." - 94pts Vinous

Juicy and energetic in the mouth, offering concentrated raspberry and cherry liqueur, fruitcake and floral pastille flavors supported by a core of smoky minerality. At once powerful and lithe, finishing on a gently tannic note with superb, floral- and mineral-driven tenacity." - 94pts Vinous

2018
"Brilliant magenta. A hugely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, cherry preserves, candied violet and exotic spices, along with a vibrant mineral nuance that expands with air. Stains the palate with sweet, penetrating raspberry, cherry, mulberry and floral pastille flavors that display a suave blend of power and delicacy. The spicy note comes back on an extremely long, floral-dominated finish that's given shape by smooth, harmonious tannins." - 94pts Vinous

"The 2019 Côte de Brouilly unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet berries, warm spices, loamy soil and potpourri. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and tightly wound, with bright acids and powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish. True to the Lafarge style, this is a classically balanced, age-worthy rendition of the appellation." - 92+pts WA

2020 Clos Vernay
Clos Vernay (from vines planted in 1975 and 1980) ---- "A more deeply pitched and slightly riper nose blends notes of poached plum, warm earth and more prominent pepper nuances. There is better density to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors thanks to the abundance of dry extract buffering the firm tannic spine shaping the youthfully austere, sappy and seriously long finale. This is excellent and absolutely worth your interest." - 93/Outstanding BH
