Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Les Caillerets ---- "A spicier nose freely reveals its aromas of both white and yellow peach and a whiff of jasmine tea. Here too there is very good mid-palate density to the medium weight flavors that aren't quite as powerful though they are finer and more mineral-driven as well on the youthfully austere, more complex and slightly more persistent finish. Lovely and I especially like the balance that should permit this to age gracefully over the next decade." - Outstanding, Burghound

Instead, a charming light raspberry perfume, all in finesse. There is that tensile thread here, that speaks of high quality, in this fine and understated wine with impressive persistence. "A cooler and ultra-pure if restrained nose somewhat grudgingly reveals its combination of lemon rind, exotic Asian-style tea, mineral reduction and pretty floral nuances. The mouthfeel of the almost painfully intense medium-bodied flavors is super-sleek, indeed the word sophisticated comes to mind, while delivering outstanding length on the youthfully austere, delineated and impeccably well-balanced finale. This too needs to develop better depth but with a potential development curve of a decade plus; the challenge is to just be patient." - Sweet Spot Outstanding, Burghound ---- "Mid yellow, beautiful sunshine on orchard fruit style of nose. Ripe but just to the perfect degree. This is a wine of exceptional beauty, a little more flesh, all about the fruit, less evidently limestone until right at the end where a little touch helps define the finish. This is a typical Morgeot of power and richness though without the usual rusticity." - Burghound

There is even better volume to the caressing and enveloping medium weight plus flavors that possess focused power on the impressively long and very dry finale. This is a wine that should repay 6 to 8 years of keeping." - Burghound

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Les Fairendes ---- "Mid lemon yellow, almost a green tint. Slightly reductive but still with some flesh behind. Young vines here, planted in 2018, but that doesn’t stop the elegance. Lively, floral, a little lime blossom, no great weight but beautifully balanced in pure white fruit. A small crop as they have just switched this to guyot poussard pruning. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted Nov 2024." - 91-94pts & 4/5 stars, Jasper Morris MW

2022  Chassagne-Montrachet

Archaeological findings confirm the ancient village of Chassagne used to be occupied by a Roman society. The Romans planted the vines and built the city, hence the name "Romanée." From a 0.81 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1957 at a higher altitude of Chassagne, protected from the north wind by a stand of trees. Aged 15 months in 228 and 350 L oak barrels, 35% new. ---- "Here too there is the barest suggestion of the exotic lurking in the background of more floral-suffused aromas of Granny Smith apple, spice and a similar hint of wet stone. The middleweight flavors are not as concentrated but they are noticeably finer, particularly on the overtly stony, chiseled, youthfully austere and superbly long finale. This excellent effort will also need to develop more depth but that should merely be a matter of exercising a bit of patience." - Sweet Spot Outstanding, Burghound ---- "Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet shows an extra degree of ripe fruit, and a little less the limestone freshness of Caillerets. This is more backward, with an additional intensity, significantly so.
