2010 Langhe Nebbiolo
Just what the world needs - early-drinking Nebbiolo! This is made in a full, friendly, modern style. Freshness and lightlly textured tannin keep it distinctly Italian. Although big and fruit-driven, bright acidity provides nice delineation to the fruit. This is sort of a teenager - it definitely suggests the power of Nebbiolo but is completely approachable, unlike3 a very young Barolo.
100% Nero d'Avola. Deeply colored, ripe chocolate-coverd cherry nose, bursting ripe fruit flavors with spice & vanilla notes, nice acidity & silky tannins. Plump & delicious, perfect for winter.
100% Nebbiolo. Serralunga d'Alba, a source of tannic, full-bodied Baroli characterised by deeper color, more structure, intensity & boldness. These are wines that require aging.
100% Frappato. One might be misled by the phrase "Everyday Wine" printed on the cartons that hold the Tami line of wines. This bottle really punches above its weight. Winemaker Arianna Occhipinti is part of the new generation responsible for driving Sicily to the top of everyone's list of what's now important in Italian wine. She oversees this terrific project on behalf of a group of friends including her boyfriend who runs Tami, a quirky store in Siracusa. Frapatto, one of a handful of indigenous Sicilian varieties, has thicker skins than its deeper, more imposing pairing partner Nero D'Avola, yet it makes a surprisingly feminine wine. Enjoy its straightforward, fresh, fruity red-fruit driven flavors with antipasti, pasta, pizza & grilled meats.
Arianna Occhipinti: "The Tami project was an idea that came to me a few years ago, and that was to prove that it's possible to make good, simple, natural wine in Sicily. Tami is something I've started with some friends who own vineyards in Contrada, a district close to mine. The goal was to take good grapes and make a simple, every day wine."
2007 Calderara Sottana
In 2012, Terre Nere was selected to be one of Wine & Spirits Magazine's Top 100 Wineries of the Year and has received great critical acclaim from The Wine Advocate, The International Wine Review, Jancis Robinson & James Suckling.
These are no blockbusters - volcano wines are refined and elegant, more to strawberry and raspberry than blackberry or jam. They're about precise structure and texture. Think Burgundy.
Calderara Sottana is the stoniest vineyard. The word Calderara is reminiscent of caldera or cauldron, probably due to the fact that the black rocks hold the day’s heat through part of the night. The elevation is 600-700 metres. Calderara Sottana is a single vineyard wine produced only from vineyards between 50-100 years old. Of all our single vineyard wines it is perhaps the most complete: much like a wide angle lens encompasses the most ample panorama, so Calderara seems to contain and display the widest spectrum of flavors, bouquets, nuances. Floral and spicy, leathery and aromatic. structured, full, complex, muscular
92% Schiava/8% Lagrein - red varieties that are common to Northern Italy. A dollop of Lagrein is added to bring color and structure to the racy Schiava, but don't take this for a lightweight. This beauty is spicy, floral and elegant and takes on weight and a lovely plush character with a little air. Without question its style evokes the red wines of Northern Burgundy - at a fraction of the price. The Waldgries estate is north of Bolzano within the tiny appellation of St. Magdalener and produces only 4000 cases per year from a tiny 5 hectares.
