100% Gamay. Nouveau from a master. Talk about farm to table. The grapes for this wonderful little wine were picked on October 30. 2013 & we enjoyed a bottle just yestarday afternoon. The purest juice. Organic, unsulfured, unfiltered. Delicious, well-structured quaffable stuff! If you can wait, it opens up nicely if decanted. This is no ordinary Nouveau; this will still be singing a year from now.
712 cases produced. Fabien Duperray has been distributing some of the finest estates of burgundy for over 25 years, but until 2007 he had no vineyards of his own. He finally had the opportunity to acquire some small parcels of very old vines in Fleurie and Moulin-a-Vent in some truly special terroirs, and the results are nothing short of stunning. Fabien tends to every detail in the process with excruciating precision. From his biodynamically, certified organically farmed vines, to the hand pulling of weeds, the custom made barrels, the long elevage of 3 years, right down to the finest corks one can buy, the quality here at every turn is more akin to the most famous estates in the Cote d'Or. The wines are very limited but once tasted, you will understand what led David Schildknecht to write upon tasting the Desjourneys wines for the first time "The big story is some of the most remarkable Beaujolais wines of my experience, and perhaps ever rendered."
2010 Les Michelons
WA94, "This is my grand cru, says Desjourneys. The combination of blackberry and dark cherry fruit richness; soy-like savor; fine-grained structure; and energy, is compelling. Impression of salted, dried beef and crushed stone add further intrigue to this wine’s gripping finish."
"Concentrated, subtly tart and bitter dark berries are present in spades, along with smoked meats, all leading to a bright, vibrant finish in which the fresh fruit is set off against the wine’s stony, peaty backdrop and incisively tinged with berry seeds and black pepper." - 90-91+pts WA
100% Gamay. The essence of Morgon: bright, fleshy fruit with a palatable joie de vivre that was undoubtedly inherited from their creator. The legendary Marcel Lapierre was one of the Gang of Four who revolutionized winemaking practices in the Beaujolais region in the 1980s. His work is carried on by his son Mathieu. These fine producers were at the forefront of the natural wine movement and set the trajectory of quality in the Beaujolais region in motion. The Lapierres age their wines on fine lees for at least nine months in oak foudres and fûts ranging from three to thirteen years old.
"Nobody’s wines taste like Marcel Lapierre’s. He is the source of a whole new school of winemaking, turning the hands of time back to wine the way Mother Nature envisioned it. Tasting it can change the way you taste wine."
2014 Domaine des Vignes du Tremblay
Domaine des Vignes du Tremblay - "The Cru Beaujolais of Moulin-à-Vent inherited its name from the stoic windmill that has overlooked these vineyards since the 15th century. In the same silent, consistent manner, Paul Janin and his family have tended their Gamay vines for generations. Paul's son, Eric, is very much a product of this place; he is a fourth-generation grower, overseeing the fruit from its inception in the vineyard to its final resting place in the bottle. The grapes are farmed using lutte raisonnee methods, and the flaky, pink granite soil produces structured, powerful wines that gain even more character as they age. Bright, firm and earthy, they are reminiscent of the great terroirs of the Côte de Nuit. The Janins' traditional wines have proved to be as steadfast as the Moulin-à-Vent itself."
