2014 Red Vinho Regional
The fact that the grapes come from the Dão and Bairrada regions guarantee a wonderful wine nobly developed in the bottle. These wines ferment and age in French oak barrels for 12 months.
When the Niepoort family moved from Holland to the Douro region of Portugal in 1842, the rise of one of the great Port houses of Oporto began. And in 1997, as the fifth generation to make fortified wines for the family business, Dirk Niepoort began a brand new rise. Considered a true Renaissance man, Dirk continues to make Port using the same traditional methods as his ancestors, while also leading the way as one of Portugal's most innovative, creative and exciting producers of dry table wine. Dirk started making table wine because, well, he likes to drink table wine. As it turns out, he is rather good at it. He and his sister, Verena, make 11 Douro wines (red, white and rosé) at a variety of price points. During the past 25 years, they put both the family estate and the entire region on the map for wine. Dirk is a pioneer of modern approaches - creating artistic labels and new marketing and selling practices - but with a healthy respect for traditional, classic methods of winemaking. Niepoort spares no expense in creating wines that match their high-quality Port siblings.
2009 Dona Santana
Dona Santana - Touriga Nacional, full and voluminous with the sweet and structured Tinta Roriz and the complex aroma of the Jaen, growing on slopes at an altitude between 350-400 meters. Very fragrant, with sweet and appealing ripe fruit standing out, greedy and full in the mouth with well measured tannins. Sweet spices lend a final aroma to this Dona Santana, making it appealing and attractive to Dao novices and oenophiles alike.
2013 Vinhas Velhas - Red
13.5% alcohol - A red blend from vines averaging over 80 years of age. The blend is roughly 35% Castelao, 30% Trincadeira, 15% Aragonez, 5% Camarate, 5% Tinta Miuda & 10% "mixture of old Portuguese grape varieties." The wine is aged for 1 year in old oak barrels.
1999 Vinha do Fojo
13% alcohol - We like to go as old-school as we can get. And for the Douro, that's Quinta
do Fojo. Led by Margarida Serodio Borges, the Fojo vineyards have been overdelivering some of the most impactful red wines from the Cima Corgo region...shockingly, in only 5 vintages. Big, concentrated, penetrating wines were immediately recognized coming out of the gate in 1996. Five
vintages later, Quinta do Fojo goes on a hiatus, until now. Older vintages from the Douro are not only a rarity, but a treat. These, sustainably produced under Integrated Production practices, are drop
dead gorgeous with fruit galore, elegance throughout and a finish that reminds us of why Douro is royalty. Truly intellectually stimulating wines with a dynamic that is ever-evolving.
Vinha do Fojo 1999
Bright and powerful. This mouthful of Douro, a blend of tannin and freshness, is simply put,
impressive. Rather manly, somewhat balsamic, yet full of fruit, this is a wine made to wow our minds and spirits. Sustainable, these wines are vinified in temperature-controlled lagares, where the foot macerated grapes get the royal treatment.
13.5% alcohol, organic/sustainable - One of the most prized vineyards in the Dão, Quinta do Perdigão, has truly developed winemaking into an art form. With carefully, hand-selected grapes, the very exclusive wines using noble Portuguese grapes create gastronomic concoctions bursting with flavor and mystery. Encruzado 2012: Known for its aging qualities, this Encruzado gives us a high mineral glimpse into its present and future elegance. Silky smooth with a bite resembling pear cider, the finish on this mono-varietal is truly multi-dimensional.
2011 Pôpa TN
14% alcohol - Created from a single grape variety, Portugal’s most precious Touriga Nacional, Pôpa TN gives your nose a wham and your mouth a bam. Its intense, almost dirty aroma, is chock-full of red fruits, giving this wine an elegance that surprises you. After a 6-month maturation period in French oak, its prolonged taste satisfies your curiosity and finds you begging for more. To be served at 18ºC
13% alcohol - This mineral delight bursting with grapefruit and jasmine notes takes the 100% Alvarinho up a notch. Its unusual longevity in the bottle makes this wine one of the international references in the world of whites.
