"I often lament the fact that only the 1990 and 2009 are wines that fully showcase this extraordinary terroir. However, the 2000 is no "Ugly Betty," so to speak. It showed extremely well in the tastings, with the tell-tale notes of flowers, crushed rock, blueberry and camphor well-displayed. Full-bodied, rich, long, and just beginning to shed its cloak of tannin, this is quite an impressively endowed Beausejour-Duffau that can be drunk in 1-2 years or cellared for another 25 or more." - 93pts WA
Class and pleasure meet in Pomerol. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged in 50% new and 50% old barrique. The red fruit aromas follow through a mouth-filling mid-palate and a velvety finish. Frédéric Leydet runs the family estates (Leydet-Valentin and Chateau de Valois) which span two appellations: Pomerol and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Passed down through the generations, Frederic’s father Bernard Leydet began running these estates in 1962 with only a few hectares. By the time of his death in 2005 they had each grown substantially, 8.87 hectares in Saint Emilion and 7.78 hectares in Pomerol. Frédéric was born and raised at the property and after studying vine growing and oenology came to work at the estate in 1996. Now he is 100% in charge of the two estates
"A consistent winner in both quality and value, the dark plum/garnet-tinged 2000 Grand-Mayne reveals a sweet nose of blueberry pie intermixed with forest floor and floral undertones. Deep, opulent, round, and full-bodied, it is a fully mature St.-Emilion that should drink well for another decade." - 93pts
"La Conseillante made an excellent wine in 2001, another great one in 2005, and the estate hit home runs in both 2008 and, above all, in 2009. In fact, the latter vintage may well end up being the modern-day reference point for La Conseillante. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to be said for this 2000. An elegant, gentle style that is never a blockbuster, the 2000 La Conseillante has a deep ruby/plum/purple color and an unbelievably expressive nose of sweet kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, incense, toast, and licorice. Full-bodied yet ethereal in the sense that it seems to combine power along with eloquence and delicacy, this is a beautifully pure wine that has just hit its plateau of full maturity, although ideally I think it would benefit strongly from another 4-5 years of bottle age and drink well for two to three decades." - 96pts WA
"An outstanding, medium to full-bodied effort, the 2000 Latour a Pomerol exhibits a plum/purple color, admirable texture, medium to full body, and notes of caramels, truffles, sweet earth, and cola interwoven with black cherry liqueur and plums. Pure, deep, and classic, with moderately high tannin in the finish, patience is essential. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020." - 94pts WA
"Although still youthful, I do not think the 2000 Monbousquet will develop much more complexity. It is a seductive, rich, generously endowed effort revealing plenty of spice box, herb, black currant, kirsch, espresso, and toasty oak characteristics in a decidedly modern, but opulent, fleshy style. Enjoy this endearing, long, velvety-textured St.-Emilion over the next decade." - 93pts WA
"Full-bodied and powerful, but still tannic, structured, and backward, the 2000 Nenin possesses a dark ruby/plum color as well as a sweet nose of boysenberries, earth, flowers, and truffles. It requires another 4-5 years of bottle age, and should keep for 20 years thereafter." - WA
"A beautiful crushed rock/liqueur of minerality characterizes this inky/purple-hued St.-Emilion. Tannic, with lots of pure black raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with a notion of charcoal as well as the aforementioned rocky/powdered stone component, this long distance runner requires another 5-6 years of cellaring. It should age easily through 2030+." - 95+pts WA
"The luxury cuvee from Faugeres (owned by Bernard Magrez), the 2000 Peby Faugeres is the real deal. Sadly, only 500+ cases were made of this compelling St.-Emilion. An inky/blue/purple hue is accompanied by aromas of espresso roast, blueberry liqueur, smoke, and graphite. Thick and unctuously-textured with impressive purity and depth as well as full-bodied power and richness, it needs another 2-3 years of cellaring, and should last for two decades." - 96pts WA
"This wine offers harmony, velvety texture and above all the freshness that is dear to Jean-Claude Berrouet. This wine is better two hours after opening." - Bettane & Desseauve, Nov 2014
"The fully mature, flamboyant, exuberant 2000 Valandraud offers beautiful notes of coffee, blackberries, sweet cherries, licorice, and smoke. Medium to full-bodied with a buffet of aromas and flavors as well as sweet tannin and a plush, succulent mouthfeel, this is a terrific effort from proprietor Thunevin. It should drink well for another 8-10 years." - 94pts WA
