2015 'Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore'
'Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore' -- A blend of two vineyards. One consists of 7 year-old vines and the other, 35 year-old vines. All stainless steel fermented and an additional 3 months on the lees before bottling.
"A great year for a great wine with a fine structure, heavy and enveloping with tannins of exemplary cleanliness, closing with a long, pleasing finish. Casalferro is a wine with a modern approach evidencing the Ricasoli Barons' role as innovators in wine growing. The wine exalts the features of the Sangiovese in combination with Merlot and its long lineage." - Barone Ricasoli official
1997 di Montalcino
Like Siro Paecnti, Brunelli's vineyard sites allow him to blend north and south to achieve great balance, no matter what the vintage brings.
2006 di Montalcino Riserva
94pts WA - The Gianni Brunelli estate may be the best little winery in Montalcino you’ve never heard of! Traditionally these wines are snapped up by NYC restaurants before they make retail shelves, so while the profile has been lower than other estates, the quality is extraordinarily high. With two small vineyards Podernovone and Le Chiuse near the township of Montalcino, this tiny estate encompasses just 6 hectares. The soil of Podernovone, made up of calcareous-marly schists, reflects light and heat to the grapes. The different climate of the two properties (fresh and airy at Le Chiuse di Sotto with a lot of rain in the summer and warmer and ventilated at Podernovone) results in complex and elegant wines. These are wines of traditional elegance that are aged exclusively in large Slavonian oak. Indigenous yeast is used to bring floral, ethereal notes to these wines.
2006 Classico Riserva
100% Sangiovese sourced from their best vineyards in the southeast corner of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Natural fermentation with native yeast in stainless steel tanks for 12-14 days. Aged in large Slavonian oak for 24 to 36 months. The Castell'in Villa wines are always released a year to two years after most of their peers. They are one of the oldest estates and have wines in their cellar dating back to 1971. "The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva hits all the high notes. Ripe and structured, yet also wonderfully contained, the 2006 boasts stunning depth, power and richness. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2006 is also likely to require a considerable amount of time to come around. All the elements are in the right place for the 2006 Riserva to develop into a splendid wine. The mid-weight, firm style is classic Castell'in Villa." - 94pts AG
2013 Bolgheri Rosso DOC
The Ceraltis have been farmers for several generations in Bolgheri, and after many years of selling grapes to Ornellaia and Sassacaia, 10 years ago, they built their own winery and are now bottling their
entire estates' grape production This is their entry level Bolgheri DOC wine which means the grapes come from the best region of Bolgheri. A big, fruity red, almost New World in style except for the vibrant acidity and firm backbone of tannins. The bright fruit evokes black cherry and black currant flavors, while cedar and leather notes add depth. A complete package.
Ciacci Piccolmini is one of the most sought-after producers in all of Italy. This ancient estate has 35 hectares of superior holdings in the prized Castelnuovo dell’Abate zone, including the "Pianrosso" vineyard. The bouquet is of the Pianrosso is intense, complex, fruit-forward and spicy with hints of ripe red berry fruits enriched by various spicy notes. Warm, soft and harmonic on the palate. Great balance among pronounced tannins, acidity and savouriness. This elegant wine has good potential for further cellar ageing. - Piccolomini Official "Aromas of lilac, dark berry and sandalwood follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and an intense and savory finish. Very intense and very long. Succulent. Amazing balance and depth to this red. It's so beautiful to taste now but it will be much better in five to ten years. A triumph." - 98pts JS
2012 Brunello di Montalcino - 97pts JS
Brunello di Montalcino - 97pts JS - "This is all about finesse and beauty with such great length and polish. It literally melts in your mouth. Full-bodied yet agile and vivid. So many undertones of cedar, berries, cream and light toffee. Fabulous. Contender for the wine of the vintage."
