Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Les Fairendes ---- "Mid lemon yellow, almost a green tint. Slightly reductive but still with some flesh behind. Young vines here, planted in 2018, but that doesn’t stop the elegance. Lively, floral, a little lime blossom, no great weight but beautifully balanced in pure white fruit. A small crop as they have just switched this to guyot poussard pruning. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted Nov 2024." - 91-94pts & 4/5 stars, Jasper Morris MW

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Les Fairendes ---- "A discreet application of wood sets off aromas of olive oil and a vague suggestion of the exotic. There is impressive richness to the opulent and generous medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract while delivering excellent length on the compact, serious and powerful finish. This is a typical Morgeot of power and richness though without the usual rusticity." - Burghound

2022  Chassagne-Montrachet

Archaeological findings confirm the ancient village of Chassagne used to be occupied by a Roman society. The Romans planted the vines and built the city, hence the name "Romanée." From a 0.81 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1957 at a higher altitude of Chassagne, protected from the north wind by a stand of trees. Aged 15 months in 228 and 350 L oak barrels, 35% new. ---- "Here too there is the barest suggestion of the exotic lurking in the background of more floral-suffused aromas of Granny Smith apple, spice and a similar hint of wet stone. The middleweight flavors are not as concentrated but they are noticeably finer, particularly on the overtly stony, chiseled, youthfully austere and superbly long finale. This excellent effort will also need to develop more depth but that should merely be a matter of exercising a bit of patience." - Sweet Spot Outstanding, Burghound ---- "Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet shows an extra degree of ripe fruit, and a little less the limestone freshness of Caillerets. This is more backward, with an additional intensity, significantly so. "Here the nose is displaying some post-bottling reduction so give it some air if you're going to try a bottle young. More interesting are the succulent and round yet decidedly powerful medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that helps to buffer the notably firmer tannic spine shaping the lengthy finish. This is also quite good though note that it will need at least a few years of keeping first." - 91pts/Outstanding, Burghound ---- "Just a little bit more intense in purple but not much. The fruit is balanced and at the perfect pitch of ripeness. Much more powerful on the palate with some black cherry notes as well as a little red fruit, mix of tannins and acidity, neither too prominent. Very different in style from Clos St-Jean but equally a success. Oak shows a little more. 13.3% alcohol Tasted Oct 2021." - 4/5 stars, Jasper Morris MW

More appealing are the gorgeously textured and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also buffers the moderately tightly wound finish where a touch of austerity slowly emerges. This pretty effort could use better depth but a few years of bottle aging should be helpful." - Outstanding, Burghound

Chassagne-Montrachet ---- "This is also attractively cool and airy with its array of various white orchard fruit, zest and rosemary oil scents. The rich and solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors exhibit better depth and length on the moderately rustic finale that is notably more tightly wound. This is a good Chassagne villages that should drink well after only a year or two of keeping yet repay 5 to 8." - Burghound

"The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Village, a blend of three parcels, has a taut and focused bouquet, reserved initially, unfolding with wilted white flowers and light waxy aromas. Quite understated. The palate is well-balanced with neatly assimilated oak, orange rind and slivers of white peach, leading to a waxy-textured, satisfying finish. This is a well-crafted and quite delicious Chassagne-Montrachet." - 91pts Vinous
