2019  Auxey-Duresses

En Reugne is one of Auxey-Duresses’ nine Premier Crus, which represent only 1.35 hectares out of a total of 35.6 hectares in the appellation. From one of the coolest sectors of the Cote de Beaune comes this lively Auxey Duresses, which strikes a unique balance between raciness and fullness. Pierre Boisson is drawn to "mountain" terroirs of Auxey and the Hautes Cotes de Beaune, for both their stony terroirs and lower temps, which are particular important in warmer vintages likes 2015.

"Here too there is a hint of menthol present on the notably spicier dark berry liqueur-like aromas that also display plenty of earth and game characters. The sleek and delicious middle weight flavors are slightly less concentrate and powerful though at the same time they're more obviously mineral-driven, all wrapped in an even firmer if not longer finale. While qualitatively similar, this and the Paulands offer two very different drinking experiences. Patience." - 91-93pts BH

"Equally cool and fresh aromas are comprised by notes of green apple, lemon zest and pretty acacia blossom wisps. There is a bit more volume as well as better mid-palate density to the attractively textured flavors that display unusually good length in the context of the appellation on the very dry but not really austere finale. 1er Cru Les Jarollieres ---- "This is also beautifully layered with its ripe and equally fresh nose reflects notes of roasted purple fruit, warm earth and an unusual hint of hoisin. The succulent, round and relatively refined flavors possess fine mid-palate volume along with a similar taut muscularity before terminating in a youthfully austere finish that is shaped by a very firm tannic spine. "Relatively strong reduction dominates the nose at present and prevents a thorough assessment. By contrast, there is good freshness and ample verve to the exceptionally rich, powerful and borderline massive flavors that enjoy support in the form of a very concentrated mid-palate and a notably firm tannic spine that imparts a chewy texture to the hugely long, mouth coating and tannic finish. This is breathtakingly good though like any self-respecting Clos du Roi, to note that it will need plenty of bottle age is largely superfluous.' - 92-95pts BH

From Les Pellans, just below Charmes 1er Cru and adjacent to Puligny-Montrachet. Vines planted in 1945. This has been a separate bottling from the VV cuvée since the 2015 vintage. Gentle pressing. Aged 18 months in neutral barrels. ---- "This is at once slightly fresher and a bit more elegant as well with its floral and citrus-suffused nose that display background nuances of browned butter. There is excellent density and better precision to the middle weight flavors that culminate in a youthfully austere and lemony finish that is balanced, long and more complex.
